Weekly Pupdates: Animals in need of a fur-ever home

By Kopal Manglik 15 June 2021

If you are thinking about getting a furry companion of your own, you may want to consider adopting from a rescue shelter before hitting the pet shop. Not only are you helping to sustain these charities by adopting from their shelters, but since they are run by animal welfare advocates, you can also be sure that they will be able to match the right rescue animal to cater to your lifestyle, ensuring a long-lasting and harmonious relationship.

To help make things easier for you, we’ve put together a weekly round-up of the most adorable companion animals available for adoption across Hong Kong. But before you proceed, have you considered what it takes to adopt a rescue animal? Are you able to afford the cost? Is your home safe enough for a dog? Don’t worry, you can find all the answers you need in our guide to everything you need to consider before adopting a dog in Hong Kong.

Dinah and Dana

Age: 4 months old

Gender: Female

Breed: Domestic shorthair

Description: Dinah and Dana were rescued after their mum was tragically killed on the road. They are in a foster home now where they are playing and generally having fun, enjoying cuddles, and being carried around. Dinah and Dana are really happy, normal kittens who prefer a quieter household, and yes, they do have to stay together!

Best suited for: A quieter environment without children.

Notes: To adopt from Kirsten’s Zoo, please fill in their cat adoption form.

🐾

Gut Gut (吉吉)

Age: 2 years old

Gender: Female

Breed: Domestic shorthair

Description: Gut Gut (吉吉) was found lying on the side of the road when a volunteer was walking a dog. After going to the clinic for a body check, it was found that her liver index is slightly above average and she has hair loss. She has undergone treatment and the situation is stable now. Gut Gut is a gentle and quiet cat looking for a forever home!

Best suited for: Anyone!

Ali

Description: Ali was a newborn baby when he was found in a recovery site near the SAA shelter. He was found injured and required 24-hour care from the SAA volunteers. He has recovered well after treatment. The shelter named him Ali in the hopes that he would become strong, like the Alishan mountain range. He is a friendly and playful cat!

Best suited for: Anyone!

Frodo

Age: 8 years old

Gender: Male

Breed: Pomeranian cross

Description: Frodo is sociable and desperate to be loved. Unfortunately, he has tick fever, but he is being treated at the moment—in one month, he’ll be fit as a fiddle and ready to go. Frodo already enjoys his strolls and little adventures; he’s been starved of walks and takes his time to smell the grass, literally! He’s a delightful little dog and deserves a home to match!

Best suited for: A person, couple or family without young children.

Notes: To adopt from Kirsten’s Zoo, please fill in their dog adoption form.

🐾

Lucky

🐾

Agumon

Age: 3 years old

Gender: Female

Breed: Mixed breed

Description: Don’t be fooled by Agumon’s frowny expression; she is actually an extremely energetic furkid! Whenever you pass Agumon a toy, she will gently bite onto it and bring it to a place where she feels unbothered. Once she starts playing, she will ignore everything around her and go into her own world. Agumon will also get super excited when it is almost time for food; she will jump relentlessly to show you her passion for food!

Best suited for: Anyone!

Notes: If you are interested in adopting from SPCA, please contact the SPCA Wan Chai Headquarters at (+852) 2232 5529 and mention Agumon’s number (PN: 487479) while speaking with their representatives.

Thor

Age: 2 years old

Gender: Male

Breed: Mixed breed

Description: Have you ever met a furkid that judges a dog by its appearance? Well, Thor is a great example! Every time another dog passes by, Thor will either ignore it, or he will complain with a bark—unless the dog is a young adorable female pup, in which case Thor will suddenly act shy and sit in place without saying a word. Thor is also bright and food-motivated. If you have a treat in your hand, he will automatically give you his paw without having to hear the command!

Best suited for: Anyone!

Notes: If you are interested in adopting from SPCA, please contact the SPCA Wan Chai Headquarters at (+852) 2232 5529 and mention Thor’s number (PN: 502501) while speaking with their representatives.

Loopy

Age: 4 months old

Gender: Female

Breed: Mixed breed

Description: Loopy is an affectionate, loving, and super friendly pup with striking grey-green eyes. Her greetings are the best; tail wagging, excitement, and, of course, lots of kisses. She loves playing with people, her toys, and other dogs! Loopy is quite smart and has learnt a couple of tricks—including “sit,” “down,” and “paw”—and is almost potty-trained. She does get very attached and possessive of her “person,” so will need someone who is able to train her. She will do great in all households, but in particular one that’s active!

Best suited for: Anyone with an active lifestyle.

Notes: To adopt from Hong Kong Dog Rescue, please fill out their adoption form.

🐾

Percy

Age: 3 months old

Gender: Male

Breed: Mixed breed

Description: Gorgeous little Percy is an energetic, playful, and super affectionate young boy. He is friendly with everyone and particularly loves his carers! He gets attached very quickly and will definitely give you all the love. Even at the vet, he was super calm (but had the cutest little whiney voice). His tail was wagging even when he was getting his vaccination! He is toilet-trained, and his brother Pringle has already been adopted.

Best suited for: Anyone!

Notes: To adopt from Hong Kong Dog Rescue, please fill out their adoption form.
