4 easy ways to incorporate supplements into your diet

It’s hard to believe fitness supplements were once considered specialist products for hardcore fitness buffs. Happily, the availability, taste, and texture of protein powder have also come a long way (or should that be whey?)—making it easier and more delicious than ever to incorporate that extra protein boost into your diet!

Seeing as we’re now at that point when new year’s resolutions start to lose steam, we’ve put together a few fun, healthy recipes with the help of the protein pros at NuFitness Asia to spur you into action. Whether you’re a fitness newbie looking for a way to use up that tub of protein powder gathering dust on the kitchen shelf or a powerlifter who’s deep into bulking season and bored of the same old recipes, we’ve got just the thing!

Berry smoothie bowl

You don’t have to go to a trendy café to get a cold, refreshing smoothie bowl—whip up one of these icy treats according to your exact preferences at home! This recipe is super customisable, meaning that you can switch it up with different flavour combos or use a plant-based protein powder to make it vegan.

Ingredients
  • 1 scoop of vanilla- or fruit-flavoured Core Pro Protein Powder
  • 140 grams frozen berries of your choice (e.g. strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries)
  • Half cup of unsweetened almond milk (or other plant milk)
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon of chia seeds
  • 6.5 grams of ground flax seed
  • 7 grams of slivered almonds
  • 7 grams of unsweetened coconut flakes or cacao nibs
  • 75 grams of banana slices or other fresh fruit of your choice
Directions
  1. Mix the protein powder, frozen berries, plant milk and ice cubes in a blender.
  2. Pulse until everything is fully blended. The consistency of the mixture should be thick—closer to a solid than a liquid—so you can eat it with a spoon.
  3. Pour mixture into bowl and top with seeds, nuts, and fruit.

No-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies

These healthy no-bake cookies are perfect for those days when you’re on the go and need a quick pick-me-up. Best of all, since the protein powder acts as a meal replacement, you’ll be full and energised for hours!

Ingredients
  • 60 millilitres of sugar-free maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A quarter teaspoon of sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop of Core MRP Double Chocolate Oatmeal Protein Powder
  • 1 cup of quick-cooking oats
Directions
  1. Prep a baking sheet with wax paper.
  2. Combine creamy peanut butter, maple syrup, coconut oil, and almond oil in a small saucepan and melt over low-medium heat. Stir until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat. Whisk in the vanilla extract, sea salt, powdered peanut butter, and cocoa powder until mixture is well-combined.
  4. Add protein powder and quick-cooking oats and mix again. The texture should be chunky, but workable—if it is too thick, you can add a tablespoon of almond milk to loosen it up.
  5. Split mixture into six equal balls. Space them out evenly on the baking sheet and gently press on each one to flatten them into your desired shape. Remember, these cookies aren’t going in the oven, so they won’t spread out! Leave the tray on the countertop for at least 30 minutes to cool and harden.

Blueberry muffins

Start the day with a little sweetness by whipping up a batch of these filling blueberry muffins. Alternatively, keep a batch of these on hand for a healthy afternoon snack—you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Ingredients
  • 140 grams of pumpkin purée
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 scoops of Core Pro Blueberry Muffin Protein Powder
  • Half teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Half a teaspoon of sea salt
  • 50 grams of blueberries
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius and prepare a muffin tray with paper liners.
  2. Combine the pumpkin purée and egg in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the protein powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, and mix until everything is well-incorporated.
  4. Fold in most of the blueberries, then pour the mixture into the prepared muffin tins. Top the muffins with the remaining blueberries for garnish.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until tops are lightly browned. Test doneness by inserting a wooden toothpick into the centre of a muffin; if it comes out coated in mixture, keep the muffins in the oven for another two minutes.

Cinnamon and banana pancakes

Prepare yourself for a great day ahead with these cinnamon and banana pancakes! Enriched with ground flaxseed and mini chocolate chips, these are healthy without being boring.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine flaxseed and water in a small bowl and set aside for a few minutes.
  2. Mix protein powder, chocolate chips, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Meanwhile, warm a pan on medium heat.
  4. Pour flaxseed and water mixture into the dry ingredients and stir to combine. If you like your pancakes on the thinner side, add a little water to reach the desired consistency—if not, the mixture will yield fluffy pancakes.
  5. Pour your pancake mixture into the preheated pan and cook for one to two minutes on each side.
  6. Top cooked pancakes with banana slices and a drizzle of syrup.
